Situated in East Singapore, Changi Airport is the republic’s main civilian airport.
It is one of Southeast Asia’s largest transport hubs,providing routes to over 320 cities around the world. 2015 saw over55,448,900 passengers passing through the airport.
This 13 square kilometre site is home to several passenger airlines, such as Singapore Airlines, SilkAir, Scoot, Tigerair, Jetstar Asia Airways and more. The airport is also used by the military, with the Republic of Singapore Air Force maintaining a presence there. It also handles extensive cargo operations.
The airport was originally opened in 1981 and has undergone a continuous programme of expansion and improvement ever since. A third terminal was added in 2008while a fourth is due for completion by 2017. There are even plans to add a fifth terminal to the site by the mid-2020s. Passengers can easily access the MRT network thanks to the airport’s own stationwhile buses and taxis are also on-hand to whisk visitors to and from the terminal doors.
